Director of Intellectual Property
William M. Brown, Ph.D., J.D., joined VaxDesign in March 2005 as Director of Intellectual Property. Prior to joining VaxDesign, Dr. Brown served as Senior Director, Legal Affairs and Company Secretary to Pharmasset, Inc., General Counsel to Restoragen, Inc., Patent Counsel to Taro Pharmaceuticals, and an Associate with Kaye Scholer, LLP, in New York. Dr. Brown is responsible for VaxDesign’s growing intellectual property portfolio in the field of artificial immune systems, suitable for testing vaccines and other immunotherapies.
Dr. Brown is admitted to the bars of New York, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., Nebraska (inactive), the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 3rd, 8th, 11th, D.C., and Federal Circuits, the U.S. District Courts for the District of New Jersey, Southern District of New York, District of Nebraska, District of Columbia, and the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. Dr. Brown received his Ph.D. in molecular biology and biochemistry from the University of Southampton, England. He subsequently completed postdoctoral research fellowships at Harvard Medical School’s Center for Neurologic Diseases, the National Institutes of Health’s Gerontology Research Center, Johnson & Johnson’s Skin Biology Research Center, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s Immunology Program. Dr. Brown attended New York Law School, and he received his M.B.A. from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. Dr. Brown is the author or coauthor of more than 75 scientific and legal publications, including three books.
